Meet your Instructor - Sandi LaPlante
As a child Sandi collected scraps from her mother’s sewing projects to create outfits for her dolls. She made her first bathing suit at the age of 11 and began creating clothing and dance costumes in her teens. A lifetime of sewing for fun led to a small business of teaching sewing classes, creating custom dance and skating costumes and designing everything from bathing suits to wedding gowns and tailored menswear. She even designed and created all the uniforms for a Fitness Centre along with a line of custom aerobic wear. In 2000 when Sandi joined SST to tap dance in 42nd Street her sewing skills were discovered and she was asked to costume the next show. Since then, Sandi has designed costumes for a few local theatre groups and has been recognized by ACTCO with three THEA awards and two nominations for her Costume Design (out of a total of 7 adjudications).
