Details of Audition:
I Hate Hamlet offers a comedic look at how someone with no interest in Shakespeare approaches portraying one of the Bard’s most iconic characters when there seems to be no other option. The play offers a fun, fast-paced blend of contemporary comedy and classical text. We are looking for actors to bring a prepared comedic monologue and a willingness to experiment with the text. Actors are asked to select a comedic monologue of their choice, one that shows off their comedic ability while, at the same time, shows a well-formed character. Sides will be emailed to you that will be used after your monologue is delivered.
If you unable to attend the audition dates above, video submissions will also be considered. We request
video submissions be uploaded to candidates’ own YouTube page and provide the link to
firstname.lastname@example.org to be reviewed by the casting team.
Characters To Be Cast:
ANDREW RALLY (late 20s/early 30s): An emerging television star whose popular TV series has just been cancelled and is feeling the pressure of staying in the limelight.
JOHN BARRYMORE (30s-50s): The ghost of the famous and infamous larger-than-life actor who is still active on stage…among other places.
DEIRDRE McDAVEY (mid 20s/early 30s): Andrew’s energetic and almost overly supportive girlfriend. She is a hopeless romantic who sticks to her morals and might be more excited for Andrew to play Hamlet than he is.
FELICIA DANTINE (30s-50s): Andrew’s real estate broker, who is fascinated with the world of theatre and claims to have a sense of the supernatural. A New York accent is a plus, but is not required.
GARY PETER LEFKOWITZ (30s): A self-obsessed Los Angeles TV writer/producer/director with no true appreciation for theatre.
LILLIAN TROY (70s): Andrew’s straight-shooting agent, with a dry sense of humour and a romantic history with John Barrymore. Ability to do a German accent is a plus.
Rehearsals will begin in late November and will be held on Tuesday and Thursday evenings plus Sunday
In keeping with Town of Innisfil and other Government guidelines, this theatre will comply with any mandated COVID-19 health regulations. While not mandatory at this time, mask wearing may be encouraged at certain times during the rehearsal period.
