Meet Sandi LaPlante
THEA Award Winning Costume Designer (she/her)
As a child Sandi collected the scraps from her mother's sewing projects to create outfits for her Barbies and other dolls. Once able to use a sewing machine she made her first bathing suit at the age of 11 and created dance costumes through her teens. A lifetime of sewing for fun eventually led to teaching sewing courses, creating custom dance and skating costumes and designing everything from bathing suits to wedding gowns, tailored menswear and Home Dec. It was only natural for Sandi to take up creating costumes for theatre when she joined SST in 2000 to tap dance in a show (and they found out that she could sew). Since then Sandi has designed costumes for a few local theatre groups and has been recognized by ACTCO with three THEA awards and two nominations for her costume design.
*Supported by a generous grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation
